  52. Well, I recently pulled arc off the sources archive here at Imperial
  53. College to compile it on a Sun4. The distribution seems to be geared
  54. towards both ST and Unix. (Certainly the Makefile mentions both of
  55. them.)

  57. It compiled first time on the Sun4 and is currently working fine.

  60. You can get it from any comp.sources.unix archive (eg. uunet) in
  61. volume15.

  97.         Has anyone seen a graphics HP terminal emulation running on the
  98. ST?  I'm looking for ANYTHING, including a terminal emulator running
  99. under the MAC emulators.  Preferences would lean towards the
  100. inexpensive, such as Uniterm with HP emulation, or a PD terminal
  101. emulator running under Magic Sac (sorry dsmall, Spectre is out of my
  102. price range at the moment...maybe in a year or two!).

  104.         I do have the HP alpha only terminal emulator (and would like to
  105. see source for this if it's available).  Any tips on adding graphics
  106. capability would be welcome as well.  Thanks. . .

  119. You must mean the 'Real Time Fortran', used among others by UA1 at CERN (the
  120. guys who discovered the W, the Z and damn nearly supersymmetry).  I have only
  121. seen it on a Mac.  It is known here as the 'ghost house'.  We never managed to
  122. get the 'savage' banchmark to run properly - it would not print 2 numbers (1
  123. was OK), but it has many extensions for real time control of equipment.

  125. My 2c worth on the other 2:
  126. Absoft: fast, extensions, very sloppy syntax checking, no GEM interface worth
  127.         speaking of (but who does GEM in Fortran?), cheap, no support.
  128. Prospero: integrated environment (without 'make' and no way to hook mine in),
  129.         slow, good debugger, good hooks to GEM, a bit more expensive.

  148. Allan, your a reasonable guy, where did you get this reply? You make it
  149. sound like Atari Corp is not interested in doing anything to make
  150. its customer's lives any easier. Why not ? You might consider suggesting
  151. to your management that it is a "feature" in the opinion of your potential
  152. customers that they can upgrade the memory of their machine. This "feature"
  153. costs about 0.28US$ and yields quantifiable customer satisfaction.

  155. I think this is a symptom of a bigger problem. However, a thousand mile
  156. journey begins with but one step.

  201. A friend of mine has a pretty good Spectre GCR setup on his Mega 2, and
  202. would like to add a laser printer. Does anyone have any suggestions on one
  203. that works well? It would be ideal to be able to print directly from the
  204. application without having to exit to download postscript files or some such.
  205. I don't think one that could only be hooked up via serial port would be
  206. good since we have an Apple LaserWriter at work that for various reasons
  207. had to be hooked with RS232 and big files just take to long to transmit to it.
  208. I notice some printers have SCSI ports, and I've heard these are for the
  209. storage of extra fonts.  But are these ports also useable for Atari DMA access?
  210.  
  211. I have heard rumours of Dave Small supportin AppleTalk in his next release
  212. and am wondering if maybe he shouldn't just wait for that. Then he could
  213. probably pick up a LaserWriter Plus somewhere cheap and hook it up that way.
